Myring Family |

|
Research has been ongoing on the MYRING name for many years now. Contacts have been made with MYRINGS in Australia and Canada and a large database has been built up of references to the MYRING name, these are mainly in the U.K. Most of the names fit onto one large family tree and the hope is to one day fit them all onto the tree and maybe find a single source family. The origin of the name is still a mystery although there are plenty of theories. It is still most likely to be European in origin, so it may begin with a single family in this country. If you have the name MYRING or the name has occurred amongst your ancestors I would love to make contact with you. Generally it is possible to fit you into the family tree and to share the information with you. The name is registered with the Guild of One Name Studies (London), so all world wide references are welcome. HISTORY The MYRING family seems to have originated in Warwickshire/Leicestershire from there it spread to Staffordshire and then to London.. Now the name occurs in most parts of England but there is still a concentration in the Midlands. The earliest confirmed reference to the name so far is a MARGARET MYRING who was buried in Sheepy Magna, Leicestershire in 1628. The name disappeared there after 70 years but one member of the family JOSEPH moved to Kingsbury in Warwickshire and the family was centred in that area, notably Kingsbury, Nether Whitacre and Over Whitacre, for two centuries. The earliest mention of Joseph in Kingsbury is in1654. From there they spread to parts of Staffordshire, Leicestershire and London. The MYRING family was obviously very well known in Kingsbury as there is a history of them being Churchwardens over the years. JOSEPH MYRING was known to have this role in 1681. THOMAS MYRING, who was born in 1764, was Parish Clerk in Kingsbury for over 60 years. His memorial is shown in the photograph. Thomas also kept the Swan Inn, now the White Swan, in the village. His wife kept the Public House after his death in 1850 and after her death in 1866 their son Charles took over for a few more years. There is also some evidence that the MYRING family was supplying ale to the village as far back as 1680. JOSEPH the earliest MYRING in Kingsbury is believed to have been a blacksmith. Later generations were farmers and weavers. However in the 19th century many Myrings were pursuing occupations connected with horses, saddlers, harness makers and bridle cutters. In the 1850s it is known that three Myrings, Joseph Earp, John and Samuel, left their home in Shenstone, Staffordshire and travelled to Australia. They settled near Melbourne and prospered. Joseph founded the Standard Brewery at Cambells Creek near Castlemaine where he later became Mayor. In the latter role he had the honour of dining with H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh. I have much more information on the history of the family, which I am happy to share with anyone who is interested. I have full extracts from the indexes of Births, Deaths and Marriages, copies of many early wills (pre 1858) and details of later wills, plus many census and Parish Registers extracts. I would welcome any more information to add to the picture I am building up. Diane Eaton née Myring mike.eaton"at"btopenworld.com change !!!!! |
